Majestic Notes features the smooth saxophones of Stuart Dailey and the stylish keyboards of Derrick Thompson. Their pairing is of "Divine Order." One Sunday in May, 2003 at the New Psalmist Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD, Derrick approached Stuart after hearing him play for a Sunday service. The rest as they say, is musical history. Since that initial encounter in 2003, Majestic Notes has blossomed into one of the most dynamically diverse, multi-dimensional musical ensembles on the east coast.

Their unique blend of contemporary & traditional jazz, gospel , and R & B has placed them in great demand in the Baltimore/Washington area. A small sampling of their performances include the opening of the Reginald F. Lewis Museum; featured performer at Dinner Dance Gala for the DC Boys Choir; Carl T. Rowan Chapter of Blacks in Government (B.I.G) 3rd Annual Scholarship Dinner; the Black Heritage Art Show in Baltimore, MD; and a sponsor and featured performer at the Ithemba Foundation’s ‘A Taste of South Africa’s’ annual fundraiser. In addition they have played at numerous affairs for fraternities, sororities, civic organizations, weddings, church events, and business functions.

Derrick Thompson is originally from Buffalo, New York. Derrick received private instruction in piano and violin throughout his elementary and high school years. After graduating from Morehouse College in 1993 he moved to Baltimore as a part of the Teach for America program. He taught third and fifth grades in the Baltimore City School system before becoming a music teacher in 2000. He currently teaches part time at the Mt. Pleasant Christian School and plays for and directs choirs for several churches in the Baltimore area. He most recently served as the musical director for the debut performance of Lea Gilmore’s Moody Woman Tour which featured the music of Nina Simone. In addition to his work with Majestic Notes, Derrick freelances around the Baltimore/Washington area, playing with some of the most popular artists in the region.
Stuart Dailey began his love affair with music at the age of five by learning to play the piano and has been in love with music ever since. Around the age of ten he began to study the clarinet and the saxophone. He studied music at Wesley College in Dover, Delaware and later played in the Air Force. The Air Force Tops in Blue band recruited Stuart to serve as the first chair saxophonist. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, Stuart returned to Baltimore where he played in many different venues, clubs, weddings, and festivals. During his tenure with the Anointed Jazz Quorum (AJQ) in which he served as saxophonist and musical director, the band regularly opened for nationally and internationally known groups such as Spyro Gyro, Tim Eyerman, and Brian Colberston at venues including the Berksmire and the Merriweather Post Pavillion. Currently, Stuart is a music director and educator at the Cherry Hill Elementary/Middle School in Baltimore.
